CLASSICAL BALLET - Borovansky Syllabus

​

Ballet is a highly technical form of dance training with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has influenced and defined the foundation of techniques used in many other genres. Ballet has evolved over the years but will always hold the most important dance fundamentals. It requires hard work, dedication and discipline.

There are many methods of teaching ballet, Borovansky, Vaganova and Balanchine to name  few. Optional yearly examinations are conducted using the Borovansky syllabus.

JAZZ 

​

Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. In a Jazz class the dancers also learn many fun and trendy dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. It is a wonderful class to get a well rounded variety of all dance steps. Dancers will learn choreography to popular and age appropriate music of today along with vintage styles of jazz from the last decades.

 

LYRICAL

​

This style of dance blends the sustained controlled movement of ballet with the freedom, power and dynamics of jazz. Movements that flow seamlessly from one to the other held and suspended, connecting motion with emotion.

Lyrical dance is usually performed to music with lyrics, which leads it’s choreography to show inspiration, emotions, fluidity between the accents and silence in the song.

 

TAP - Glen Wood Tap Syllabus

Students will learn basic tap fundamentals and terminology as well as rythms, time steps, patterns and combinations as they progress and will have the opportunity to learn a variety of tap styles. Students will continue to be challeneged by the Glen Wood Tap syllabus.

CONTEMPORARY 

​

Contemporary dance is a form of concert dance which encourages the freedom of expression, improvisation, innovation and creative exploration of movement. The aesthetic of contemporary dance is very diverse, as it is up to the choreographers to create their individual identity through their movement style. Some contemporary dance can take on balletic qualities, while others can bring the grounded elements of African dance into the aesthetic. Students are encouraged to express their own creativity through this form of dance.

HIP HOP

​

Hip Hop incorporates a variety of old and new urban dance styles. The dancing represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music. Hip hop dancing is very dynamic and helps the dancers improve flexibility develop body balance, and coordination.. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970s.

MOVERS & SHAKERS

​

This is a blended jazz/hip hop class designed for adolescents and young adutls with special needs. Students will experience the joy of movement and music while improving coordination and locomotive skills. The dancers will also practice basic patterns and formations.

 

MUSICAL THEATRE

​

Musical Theatre is a performance-based class focusing on jazz technique and skills instrumental in Broadway-style choreography. Ballet and classical jazz exercises will be emphasized during center floor warm up. Across the floor exercises will develop a variety of stylized movements. Students will learn original choreography from some of Broadway's most celebrated choreographers, covering a wide range of musical theatre eras and styles.

 

ACRO DANCE

​

Acrobatic dance or “Acro” is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a modern dance context. Dancers will work on improving flexibility, balance and core strength, while developing tumbling skills.
